Dick Vander Lugt, 86, of Hawarden died Thursday, April 3 at a hospital in Hawarden.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 7 at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden. The Rev. Thomas De Does and the Rev. Marvin Van Der Vliet officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden.
Vander Lugt, was born September 19, 1899, in The Netherlands. He came to the United States at the age of 14 and settled in the Lebanon area.
He married Nettie Visser on January 10, 1924, in Hawarden, and they moved to a farm near Hawarden. She died September 24, 1948. He married Hilda Blom on September 1, 1949. She died July 25, 1985.
He was a prominent lifelong farmer, an active member of Christian Reformed Church serving on various Boards at the church for many years.
He was Township Assessor for more than 50 years and also served on the board of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Hull for 27 years. At the time of his death, he was serving on the board of Hawarden Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Van Wyhe of Ireton; two sisters, Elizabeth Daale of Hawarden, and Nellie Vander Lugt of Grand Rapids, Michigan, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
