Sioux Center News, April 4, 1984

Henry J. Te Paske, 79, of Orange City, former county attorney of Sioux County and former mayor of Sioux Center, died Sunday in a hospital in Orange City.

Services were at 2 P.M., Wednesday in the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Marlin Vander Wilt officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was from 7 to 9 P.M., in the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home.

Mr. Te Paske was born May 2, 1904, in Orange City. He graduated from Orange City High School, Morningside College and the University of Chicago Law School. He was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1929.

He married Forest Masier, Dec. 21, 1931 in Kansas City, MO.

Mr. Te Paske practiced law for eight years in Sioux Center, where he served as mayor for two years. In 1936 he was elected county attorney of Sioux County, an office he held for 28 years. He then moved to Orange City where he continued his private law practice which spanned more than 50 years.

He had served as president of the Iowa Bar Association, chairman of the National Conference of Bar Association Presidents and member of the board of governors of the American Bar Association. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and American College Probate Counsel.

In 1963 he received the Award of Merit of the Iowa State Bar Association.

For 15 years he served as vice counsel of the Netherlands.

Mr. Te Paske served as president of the Board of World Missions of Reformed Church of America. He was a delegate to the World Council of Churches in New Delhi, India in 1961. He was a trustee of Northwestern College in Orange City for 22 years and was an active member and elder of the American Reformed Church. He received honorary doctor of law degrees from Morningside College and Northwestern College.

Mr. Te Paske was an accomplished pianist and served many years on the board of directors of the Sioux City Symphony. He was actively involved in the Tulip Festival musical shows.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gerald of Fort Washington, MD, and John of Alton; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Joan) Mark and Miss Jean Te Paske both of Cambridge, Mass.; a brother, Bernard of Chadds Ford, PA; a sister, Johanna Rock of New York City, and four grandchildren.
