Jake Harmsen, 56, of 12041 E. 186th St., Artesia, Calif., died unexpectedly Friday. October 1, while at work. He had been suffering for some time from a heart ailment. Mr. Harmsen formerly lived in the Hawarden territory, but moved to California 15 years ago.

He was born November 20, 1898, at Rock Valley. He was married to Miss Jennie Bonnema of this vicinity in 1920.

He is survived by the widow; four sons, Ben, Richard, John and Junior Harmsen, all of whom reside in California; four daughters, Mrs. Mathilda Reipzna(*Reipma??), Mrs. Alice Douma, Mrs. Cynthia Van Dyke, who also reside in California and Geneva, who is at home; four brothers, Mike of Rock Rapids, Walter Of Hospers, Albert of California and George of Chicago and five sisters, Mrs. Joe Klein of Sioux Center, Mrs. Neil Klien [*Klein] and Mrs. Alice Bobeldyk of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Tom Van Holland of Rock Valley and Mrs. Ernest Kempema of Luverne, Minn. Funeral services were held in Artesia Tuesday, Relatives who left from here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bonnema, Henry Bonnema of Hawarden, Mrs. Peter Rynders of Hull, Mrs. Joe Vos of Volga, Minn., and Mrs. Bessie Bonnema of Rock Rapids.
