DOUGHERTY DIES OF HEART ATTACK
J. W. Dougherty, a resident of Hawarden for 16 years, passed away suddenly at his home last Friday evening of a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. W. V. Bell in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

James William Dougherty was born at Iowa Center, Iowa, June 5, 1866, and passed away in Hawarden Aug. 27, 1943, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 24 days. His early childhood was spent at Iowa Center, but he moved with his parents to South Dakota at the age of 10 or 11 years. Later they moved to Lexington, Neb. It was here that Mr. Dougherty was married to Lena May Clifford on May 16, 1900.

To this union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Juanita Ellison of Kalamazoo, Mich., Beatrice Steklenberg, Alis Holmberg and Marjorie Dougherty, of Hawarden, and Ruth Slater and Gifford Dougherty of Sioux City.

In 1910, Mr, Dougherty moved with his family to South Dakota, later settling on a farm near Lennox, where they lived until 1927 when they came to Hawarden, Besides his wife and six children, Mr. Dougherty is survived by five grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. T. A. McEntee, and a brother, E. C. Dougherty, both of Mitchell, S. D. He was baptized in the Methodist church when a child and was a regular attendant of this church for many years.

E Dougherty of Verndale, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dougherty and son of Gary S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph DeGraaf and Leane of Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs C. W. Coleman and Mrs. Sam Cameron of Sergeant Bluff, and Mrs. N. E. Weigel of Denver, Colo.
