Sioux Center News, October 21, 1992

Lawrence Vande Berg, 81, died Friday, October 16, at the Sioux Center Hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark DeWitt and the Rev. Harold Lenters officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Sioux Center under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center.

Vande Berg was born November 24, 1910, in rural Orange City, the son of William L. & Gertrude (Huitink) Vande Berg. He lived his youth and attended school in the Orange City area. He married Johanna Punt, February 14, 1926, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Sioux Center area until they retired in Sioux Center in 1972. In retirement he worked for various construction firms and also was a driver for AEA until his health failed in 1988.

He was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lois Kramer-Owens and her husband Gary of West Des Moines, and Jeanne Dykshorn and her husband Wayne of Ireton; two sons, the Rev. James L. & Kathy Vande Berg of Mahapac, New York, and Ken & Jane Vande Berg of Decorah; one brother, Davey Vande Berg of Hawkeye; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry W., and a sister, Dinah De Zeeuw.
