Sioux Center News, November 2, 1961

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church here at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday for Henry L. Vande Berg, 72, life-long resident of Sioux Center vicinity and retired Moorman Feed Company salesman, who died at his home here Saturday after an illness of one year's duration.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Harry L. Brower and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral Home.

Mr. Vande Berg was born October 14, 1889, in Holland Township, Sioux County, and grew to young manhood in this vicinity. He was married to Jerrie Prins January 22, 1914, in Sioux Center. The couple lived on a farm east of Sioux Center until moving into town in 1932. In 1934 Mr. Vande Berg became a salesman for the Moorman Feed Company, a position he held until his retirement in 1954.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church and served for a number of years as a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include the widow; a son, Jerry, of Humboldt, IA; a daughters, Mrs. Carl Ver Steeg of Sioux Center; two brothers, Gerrit and Arthur, both of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Van Beek of Westfield, ND, and Mrs. Martin Dykshorn of Sioux Center, and four grandchildren. A nephew, John Schutt, who lost his life in World War II, spent most of his life in the Vande Berg home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and an infant granddaughter.
