Sioux Center News, August 9, 1945

Mrs. Jennie Vanden Berg passed away at the St. Joseph hospital at Sioux City on Monday, August 6, 1945, at the age of 68 years. She had been ailing for some time due to heart trouble and complications and was taken care of at the Sioux City hospital for the last three weeks.

Left to mourn her departure are four children Andrew Vanden Berg, of Hospers, Mrs. Henry Te Stoet of Hospers, John Vanden Berg of Sheldon and Mrs. Gerrit Karstein of Hospers. Also five grandchildren and two brothers Ralph Wiechers and Koop Wiechers both of the Hawarden vicinity and a sister Mrs. Case Albers of Hull.

Mrs. Vanden Berg was born at Drente, Netherlands on July 31, 1877 and came to this country at the age of 9 years. The family made their home on a farm near Newkirk for many years and have lived in Hospers for the last 16 years. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on Nov. 8, 1932. She was also preceded in death by two brothers who both died in infancy, and a sister, Mrs. William Vreeman of Corsica, S.D.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 9, 1945 at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 at the First Reformed Church at Hospers with Rev. Doctor officiating. Burial will take place at the Hospers cemetery and acting as pall bearers will be Frank DeGraaf, Gerald DeGraaf, Rodney Vanden Ber, John Wierchers, John Albers and Henry Albers.
