Theodore Martin Vande Berg, 73, of Sibley died Tuesday, November 8, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services were Friday, November 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley with Pastor Howard Vranken officiating. Burial was in Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley.

Vande Berg was born November 13, 1920 in Sioux Center, the son of John M. & Winnie (Juffer) Vande Berg. He lived his youth and attended school in Sioux Center. He entered the U.S. Navy on June 1, 1944, and attained the rank of Baker Second Class. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1946. He married Esther Terpstra of Hull, on November 30, 1939, in Sioux Center. The couple lived in Watertown, South Dakota, and Sibley, where he was a baker all his life. He owned a bakery in Sibley until 1983.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the American Legion George E. Mudge Post #324 and the VFW William F. Allard Post #7373, both of Sibley.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Dr. Jerry Vande Berg of Ramona, CA; two daughters, Marsha Vande Berg of San Francisco, CA, and Linda and her husband, Charles Holland of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; one brother, Morry Vande Berg of Orange City; four sisters, Alice Sandbulte of Sioux Center, Jean Visser of Algona, Joan Harmelink of Arvada, CO, and Audrey Rens of Escondido, CA., three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
