VandeBerg, Lammert - 1857-1942

Sioux Center News, January 29, 1942

Lammert Vande Berg died at 8:30 on Thursday morning, January 22, 1942. He had been confined to bed in his home for the past two years and death was due to advanced age.

Mr. & Mrs. Lammert Vande Berg returned in Sioux Center about 31 years ago after moving from their farm east of town.

Lammert Vande Berg was born in The Netherlands in 1857. He married Dina Bruins in Wisconsin and they moved to a farm near Newkirk. Later they bought the home place which is 4 1/2 miles east of town. The Nick Vander Ploeg family now live on this farm.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the home and at the First Reformed Church and interment was in Sioux Center cemetery. Survivors include his widow and 8 children, Bert of Newkirk; Will, who lives east of Sioux Center; Mrs. Nick Vander Ploeg, east of Sioux Center, Henry of Sioux Center, Mrs. Andrew Van Beek (Gertrude) of Westfield, ND; Gerrit who lives northeast of Sioux Center, Mrs. Martin Dykshorn (Jennie) of Ireton and Art of Sioux Center.

Those relatives who came from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Van Beek; Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Van Beek; Mrs. Lowinga, all of Westfield, ND; Harold VandeBerg, a student at Central College in Pella, and Lester Vande Berg who teaches at Cushing, Iowa.

Mr. & Mrs. Art Vande Berg and children will move this week to live with his mother, Mrs. Lammert Vande Berg.
