Henry W. Vande Berg, age 77, of Orange City, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1991 at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

Henry William was born Nov. 27, 1913 at Orange City, the son of William L. & Gertrude (Huitink) Vande Berg. He was raised on a farm east of Sioux Center.

On Jan. 14, 1942 he married Kathryn De Zeeuw on a farm at Orange City. That fall they moved to Orange City where Henry was employed at the Farmers Co-op Gas Station and later at the Ford Garage. In 1951 he became self-employed as a rug weaver, which he did for 35 years. In March of this year he moved to the Valley Manor in Rock Valley.

He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City since 1944 and also a longtime member of the Orange City Lions Club.

Henry and his leader dogs were a familiar sight to the residents of Orange City and the area.

Survivors include his wife; a son Harlan and his wife Brenda of Fort Dodge three grandchildren, Jeff, Eric and Pam; and two brothers, Lawrence of Sioux Center and Davey of Hawkeye.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Dinah De Zeeuw.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 16, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City with the Revs. Donald De Glopper and Garrett Docter officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
