Hawarden Independent, November 29, 1956

Palmer R. Taggert, 47, former Hawarden resident, died Tuesday, November 20, in a Kansas City, Kan. hospital. He was a son-in-law of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Sedgwick, Sr. of Hawarden.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Porter Funeral Home at Kansas City and at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home in Hawarden, Rev. C. E. Custer officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill cemetery here.

Mr. Taggert was born November 27, 1908, at Chatsworth, IA. He was graduated from Hawarden high school and attended Morningside college. He married Lois Sedgwick of Hawarden in August of 1934.

Mr. Taggert joined the J. C. Penney Co. at Sioux City in 1933 and was serving as assistant manager when he left in 1948 to assume managership of the Penney store in Hutchinson, Kan. In 1951 he became manager of the company's store in Kansas City, Kan. and in 1953 was named manager of a new store at Mission, Kan.

Survivors include the widow; a son, Tom, a student at Dartmough college; a daughter, Nancy, at home; two brothers, DeRonda of Sioux City and Roland, of Deltis, Utah, and a sister, Mrs. Joyce Pfeil of Owatonna, Minn.

Those from out of town attending the funeral included: Mr. & Mrs. DeRonda Taggert and Suzanne, Mrs. Bessie Conway and Orrin Conway, Mr. & Mrs. John Gehan, and Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence McCormick of Sioux City; Mrs. Helma Oden of Vermillion; Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Oden and Mrs. Harlow Overdahl of Elk Point; Mr. & Mrs. O. B. Nisewanger of Helena, Mont.; Mr. & Mrs. Clarence E. Carlson of Alcester; Mrs. Isadelle Sedgwick, of Eldorado, Kan.; Mr. & Mrs. John Taggert of Springfield, Ill; Mr. & Mrs. Lowell Sedgwick of Omaha; Mr. & Mrs. Duane Bonander and Mr. & Mrs. Louis McClain of Sioux Falls; Mr. & Mrs. Darwin Johnson of LeMars, and Mr. & Mrs. Jack White of Madrid, IA.
