Martha (Sedgwick) Taggart, 80, of Hawarden died Thursday, July 11, 1991, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services were at the United Methodist Church, Hawarden with the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden.

Taggart was born February 13, 1911 in Hawarden, the daughter of Chas & Anna (Cowen) Sedgwick. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1930. She attended Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois, and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school at Gladbrook and Sheldon in Iowa, Vienna, Illnois, and later in Springfield, Illinois. She married John Taggart October 29, 1949 in Springfield. He died October 27, 1982, and she moved to the care center in Hawarden May 20, 1986.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lois Taggart of Hawarden and Helen and her husband, Dr. J. E. Akin of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Mary Sedgwick of Tequesta, Florida; nine nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Bo" Sedgwick.

Services were held Saturday, July 13, at the United Methodist Church, Hawarden, the Rev. Paul Hansen officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden. Visitation was held at Porter-Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden.
