TOWN AND COUNTY - Death of John Den Hartog.

Last evening at 6:45, John Den Hartog peacefully passed away at the family home in the south part of the city, surrounded by relatives and friends, after a painful illness of two week's duration. Deceased was universally respected by all who knew him, and had lived a long, useful and Christian life, having reached the advanced age of eighty-eight years.

He was the father of thirteen children, eleven of whom are still living, and they with the aged wife and mother, eighty-seven grand children and sixtyfive great grand children, deeply mourn their bereavement.

John Den Hartog was born in Vianen, Z. H., Nether-lands, October 15th, 1811, and came to this country in 1855, settling at Pella, Iowa, where he lived until 1872, when he joined the Holland colony here. He was a rugged man, worked hard in his younger years, was prosperous and leaves his family in good circumstances.

The funeral services will occur tomorrow at 1 o'clock p. m., from the residence and at 2 o'clock from the First Reformed church, of which he has long been a devout member. The Rev. Dr. Steffens assisted by Rev. M. Kolyn will conduct the services.

In the death of John Den Hartog another of Sioux county's oldest and most respected settlers has passed on to his reward aud the deepest sorrow is felt by those who have known him so long and so well.
