March 13, 1914--April 27,2008

SANBORN--Bessie Cecelia Van Dyke, 94, Sanborn, died Sunday, April 27, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Services were Wednesday, April 30, at Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Greg Dyk officiating. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.

Bessie Van Dyke, daughter of Gerrit and Jessie (Dykstra) De Vries, was born March 13, 1914, near Hospers. A short time later the family moved to Sanborn, where she received her education at Sanborn Christian School. She married Jake Van Dyke on June 19, 1935, at her parents' farm just east of Sanborn. They farmed in the Sanborn area until 1966, when they moved into the town of Sanborn. They later lived in Sioux Center for 10 years, and then moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. During their retirement, they spent many winters in Alamo, TX. They moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in 2006.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing, and playing cards. She was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the ladies Bible studies for many years. She loved her Lord. When her eyesight began to fail, she looked forward to having Scriptures read to her.

Survivors include her husband, Jake Van Dyke of Sanborn; four children, Jim and Joy Van Dyke of Sanborn, Gary and Laura Van Dyke of Holland, MI, Jessie and Franklin Vandenberg of Overland Park, KS, and Judi and Eugene Vonk of Ireton; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Hoffman; four sisters-in-law, Bertha Vander Plaats, Reka Andringa, Anna Talsma and June Van Dyke; and a brother-in-law, Marian and Annette Van Dyke. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Timothy Vandenberg; and a sister, Theresa Haagsma.
