Mrs. S. J. Menning.
Funeral services were held Thursday for Mrs. S. J. Menning who passed away at her home Tuesday afternoon following a heart attack Sunday. Mrs. S. J. Menning, nee Wilemina [*Willemina] De Koning, was born in Overeisel, Mich, on July 3, 1870. When still young she made confession of her faith in Christ at Overeisel Ref. Church and at the age of 17 moved with her parents to Kalamazoo.

She was married to Rev. S. J. Menning on May 1, 1893, and was a faithful companion and coworker with her husband throughout their many years of service. Together they served the Lord in the following fields of labor: Lafayette, Ind.; LeMars, Iowa; Churchville, Minn.; Ada, Mich.; Muscatine, Mich.; Portage, Mich.; Archer, la.; Rock Rapids, la.; Beverly, Mich.; Twin Lakes, Mich.; and Little Rock, Iowa. They retired from the work of the active ministry in November, 1930. The departed was ever active in the work of the kingdom. Since 1931 Mrs. Menning served in the Trinity Ref. Church as a teacher in the Sunday School, a worker in the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society, and was until the time of her passing a member of the Woman's Board of Domestic Missions. The consistent prayer life and frequent testimonies for Christ of the departed will remain a spiritual challenge for those who survive her.

Survivors are her husband. Rev. S. J. Menning; her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Van Wyk of Alto, Wisc.; and her grandchildren: Rev. Gordon van Wyk about
to go to China as a Missionary in the capacity of Professor of History in the Fukien Christian University; Judson Van Wyk a medical student at John Hopkins Medical School; and Lois Van Wyk a Junior at Hope College. Also surviving is a great granddaughter, Susan Beth Van Wyk, the 9 week old daughter of Rev. and Mrs Gordon Van Wyk. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home and at Trinity Ref. Church with Rev. R. Ongna officiating. Acting as casket bearers were Rev. Hubert Muilenburg, Rev. Henry Vande Brake, Rev. Zwier Roetman, Rev. Jacob Heemstra, Rev. F.B. Mansen and Rev. Jean Vis. Interment was made in the O.C. Cemetery.

Rev. S. J. Menning will hold sale of his household goods, Saturday, Aug. 31. He will accompany the Rev. J. C. Van Wyks to their home at Alto, Wis., and will remain there for some time.
