Mr. Raymond G. Van Dyke, age 79, of Hospers, passed away Monday, April 1, 2002 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Milton Sikkema officiated. Interment followed at the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home of Hospers.

Raymond George was born December 25, 1922, at Hospers, the son of Albert and Mabel (Roetman) Van Dyke. He was raised at Hospers. On February 1, 1946, he married Alice Vander Maten at Middleburg. He then served in the United States Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. After the war, they made their home at Hospers, where "Ray" was a farmer and cattle feeder. In 1988, they moved into Hospers.

Ray thoroughly enjoyed farming, and he especially loved his horses. He was an outgoing man, who was known for his sense of humor. He looked forward to having coffee with friends, and he greatly appreciated spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Van Dyke was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church of Hospers.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Ramona and Brian Garvey and Bonnie and Fred Kramer, all of Hospers; two sons and their wives, Randy and Judy Van Dyke, of Spencer, and Wayne and Kim Van Dyke, of Hospers; grandchildren, Nic and Heidi Kramer, Josh Kramer, Mike Kramer, Matt Kramer, Angie and Doug Heikens, Amy Van Dyke and her fiancée Wes Simpson, Ashley Van Dyke, Chandler Van Dyke, and Jordan Van Dyke; great-grandchildren, Jacob Kramer, Paige and Chance Sorenson, and Cole and Braden Heikens; and five sisters, Agatha Vander Pol, of Loveland, Colorado; Marie Lucas, of Brookings, South Dakota; Berdella De Vries, of Santa Rosa, California; Velma Van Meeteren, of Sheldon, and Arlyce and her husband, Maynard Schutt, of Sheldon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a grandson, Dustin Kramer.
