William Lammers Jr.
William Lammers Jr., 78, of Sheldon died Saturday, March 5, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Services were Tuesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Rev. Brian Keepers officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Lammers, the son of William D. and Gertie (Van Veldhuizen) Lammers, was born October 19, 1926, near Newkirk. As a small child he moved with his parents to Sioux Center; when he was eight years old, they moved to a farm west of Sheldon where he attended a Sioux County country school. After finishing school, he helped his dad on the farm and worked for area farmers before joining the army and serving during the Korean conflict. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Sheldon and started farming west of Sheldon. They lived on the farm for the next 39 years, before retiring and moving into Sheldon in 1993. He was a charter member ofBethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and had served on the board of directors for the Farmers Co-Op Elevator. He enjoyed having coffee at the Kum & Go, fishing, John Deere tractors and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, of Sheldon; a son, Jim Lammers and his fiance Karla West of Sheldon; two daughters and their husbands, Wanda and Jeff Peters of Jewell and Nancy and Craig Linscheid of Johnston; 11 grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Fannie and Norm Menning of Rock Valley and Elizabeth and Jim Dykstra of Orange City; a brother-in-law, Max McGinnis of Cheyenne, Wyoming; a sister-in-law, Karen Lammers of Ireton; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hermina McGinnis; and a brother, Gerrit Lammers.
