Fatal Accident Last Friday on Perry Creek Road
William Taylor, Aged 23, Killed When New Truck He Was Driving Collided With an Auto

William Taylor, the 23-year-old son of Mrs. Elkanah Taylor, residing a few miles southeast of McNally, in Plymouth county, was instantly killed about 10 o'clock last Friday night [July 24] when a truck he was driving collided with an automobile occupied by John McMahon and family, neighbors of the Taylors. The accident occurred near the Max Yoerger place on the Perry Creek road a short distance south of the Sioux county line, where a long hill descends, meeting an east and west road at the foot of the incline.

The young man was driving a new truck which he had purchased only a week before. Early in the evening he had been at the John Borchers farm where he loaded up a consignment of hogs for delivery to the Sioux City market. At the time of the accident he was traveling south at a good rate of speed while the McMahon car was traveling east. The truck turned over in the road and Taylor was apparently thrown head first, his body lying underneath the rear wheels of the truck. There was a bruise on his right temple and marks on his face as though he had been scalded. No bones were broken and concussion of the brain is supposed to have caused his death. The automobile landed right side up in the ditch at the side of the road and none of the passengers were hurt. The car was only very slightly damaged.

The coroner was summoned from LeMars but decided that no inquest was necessary, holding that the tragedy was the result on an unavoidable accident.

William Ring Taylor was born March 26, 1902, in Plymouth county and lived there all his life, his parents being pioneer residents of Preston township. His father died five years ago and since that time he and his older brother, Victor, operated the farm and lived with their mother on the place. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Plymouth Presbyterian church at Crathorne and interment was made in the cemetery at LeMars.
