Cornie Hoekstra, 91, of Orange City died Monday, August 9, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services were Saturday, August 14, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Hoekstra was born September 29, 1907, in Friesland, The Netherlands, the son of John C. and Neeltje (De Jong) Hoekstra. He came to the United States with his family in 1909. They settled in the Orange City area, where he was raised and graduated from Orange City Christian School. As a young adult, he farmed with his father. He married Henrietta Elenbaas at Orange City on March 1, 1934. They farmed in the Middleburg area for 38 years. They retired into Orange City in 1975. She died March 5, 1978, in Sioux City. He became a resident of Pleasant Acres in January 1997. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder. He had also served on the board of directors of the Christian School. He enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Alvin and Virginia Hoekstra of Kenosha, Wisconsin; four daughters and their husbands, Joan and Jim Horstman of Sioux Center, Marge and Arnie Van Gelder and Gladys and Harold Hoekstra, all of Orange City, and Karen and Dennis Vis of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Palsma of Springfield, South Dakota. He was also preceded in death by a son, Corwin; two brothers; and six sisters.
