Mrs. E. Gesink Succumbed Friday – Rites for 88 Year Old Resident Held Monday.

Mrs. Engelbert Gesink, Sr. died three o'clock Friday morning, March 12, at her farm home 4½ miles south and west of Orange City. Mrs. Gesink would have been 88 years old on her next Birthday, April 1st.

Death came following an illness of a month. The deceased was born April 1, 1866 in Holland as Hendrika Grotenhuis. She came to the United States in 1913, with her husband Engelbert Gesink, whom she married May 16, 1895.

The Gesink's came directly to Sioux County, where they farmed near Alton for a number of years. Approximately 20 years ago, they moved to the farm southwest of Orange City. Mr. Gesink died in October, 1944.

Surviving children are: Ben and Gerrit Gesink and Mrs. Johanna Pennings, Orange City; Bill Gesink, Maurice; Mrs. Bert Ter Horst, Ireton; Christina, Cutlerville, Mich.; Mrs. Arie Noteboom, Alton; and Bertha, Minnie and Engelbert at home.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March. 15, at the First Christian Reformed church with Rev. A. Dusseljee in charge. Mrs. Gesink was a member of the First Christian Reformed church. Burial was made at the Orange City cemetery, with arrangements by Van Etten Funeral home.

The pallbearers were: Burt B. Gesink, Bert G. Gesink, Harvey Gesink, Engelbert Pennings, Gerrit Pennings, and Lawrence Ter Horst.
