Former O. C. Merchant Dies

Tinus Vander Maaten, 79, former business partner in the Eerkes Vander Maaten Grocery at Orange City, died at the Grossman Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 8 after a short illness following a stroke. Mr. Vander Maaten was born on Feb. 27, 1871 in the Netherlands and came to America with his parents in 1881, settling on a farm near O. C. On April 20, 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Maude Wires of Minneapolis who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1929. Also preceding him in death were 1 brother, Frank, and 1 sister, Mrs. William Van Veldhuizen. Surviving him are one sister, Mrs. Jake Doctor of O. C. and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Vander Maaten (where he had made his home for 11 years); and at the First Ref. Church of O. C. with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Burial was in Minneapolis on Saturday.
