Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11 for Mrs. Andrew Vander Maaten, nee Christine Ruisch, of Orange City, at the First Reformed church of Orange City with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Mrs. Vander Maaten had been an invalid for the past 15 years, suffering from the effects of a paralytic stroke.

Born in February 1897, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ruisch of Alton. In 1915, she was married to Andrew Vander Maaten and they were the parents of five children, of whom one died in infancy. A son, Willard, died in service in World War 2.

Surviving besides her husband are two daughters and one son: Hendrine (Mrs. Norman Brink) of Rushmore, Minn.; Lois (Mrs. Harvey Hofmeyer) of Alton and Frank of Carnes. There are 11 grandchildren. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Dick Ruisch of Sheldon; John Ruisch of Maurice; Mrs. Alice Vlieger of Orange City and Mrs. Tom Vlieger of Sheldon.

Preceding in death are: two sisters, Mrs. Nic Spykerman of Holland, Mich., who died March 12, 1960, and Mrs. Ed Sorgendrager of Alton 13 years ago. Coming for the funeral were Nic Spykerman and daughters, Elsie, and Mrs. Richard Nyenhuis from Holland, Mich.

Her husband's obituary (Sioux Center News, Nov. 22, 1970) gives her name as Christina, as does the Sioux County Cemetery Inex.
