VANDERMAATEN, VANDERSLUIS

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the First Reformed church of Orange City for Gerrit Vander Maaten, 86. Rev. Henry Colenbrander officiated at the funeral services and burial was in the Boyden cemetery under the direction of the Co-op Burial Ass'n. of Sioux Center.

Mr. Vander Maaten was born in Holland, the Netherlands, in 1873 and came to America in 1895 with his parents, brothers and sisters. He was the sole survivor of a family of ten.

He married Ella Vander Sluis in 1902. To them were born four children, all of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Vander Maaten passed away in 1944. Mr. Vander Maaten continued on his farm three miles south of Boyden until four years ago wen he became hospitalized at Grossmans were he spent the remainder of his life, except for a few months in the Pioneer Home.
