Services Held for H. J. Vander Maten

Herman J. Vander Maten age 79 of Orange City passed away at the Orange City Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 25th. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 28th at 1:30 p.m., at the Free Grace Reformed Church at Middleburg, Ia., with Rev. John Ekema officiating. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City.

Mr. Vander Maten was born Aug. 16, 1892 near Boyden. On Feb. 17, 1916 he was married to Hattie Van Ort at Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County and moved to Orange City in 1957.

Survivors are the widow; four sons, Hans and John of Orange City, William of Sheldon and Herman Jr. of Kanawha; seven daughters, Mrs. Myron (Alice) Korver and Mrs. Wilbur (Harriet) Harmelink, both of Alton, Mrs. Peter (Jenieva) Kastein of Steen, Minn., Mrs. William (Gertrude) Huisman of Artesia, Calif., Mrs. Chasper (Lucia) Vander Ploeg of Hospers, Mrs. Eugene (Hermina) Beernink and Mrs. Herbert (Kaye) Kuyper both of Sioux Center; three brothers, Andrew of Hospers, John of Leota, Minn., and Jacob of Fort Dodge; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Van't Hof and Mrs. Marian Van Peursem, both of Orange City and Mrs. Arie Van Kley of Sheldon; 37 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
