Services Held for Mrs. Vander Maten

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) for Mrs. Herman F. Vander Maten at the First Reformed Church with Rev. Alvin Eissens officiating.

Mrs. Vander Maten was born March 11, 1890 in Orange City and died last Sunday [August 1] in a nursing home. She was married on May 17, 1914. They lived in Boyden until 1954 and then returned to Orange City.

She is survived by her husband; son, Frank of Sierra Madre, Calif.; daughters, Matilda of Sioux City; Mrs. L. V. Grooters of Boyden, Mrs. John Kosters of Sioux Center, Mrs. Richard Vande Hoef of Harris, Ia.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Music will be furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley De Haan with Mrs. Harold Packel as organist. Pallbearers will be Dr. Ronald Grooters, Dennis Vande Hoef, Daryl Grooters, Dwayne Vande Hoef and Gregory Kosters. Interment at the Boyden cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

MRS. HERMAN VANDE MATEN

Funeral services will be held at the First Reformed Church in Orange City at 1:30 p.m. August 5 for Mrs. Herman F. Vande Maten, 81, of Orange City, who died at the Orange City nursing home August 1. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Alvin Eissens and burial will be made in Boyden Cemetery.

Mrs. Vande Maten was born at Orange City March 16, 1890. She was married to Herman Vande Maten May 17, 1914 at Orange City. The couple resided at Boyden for many years, and moved to Orange City in 1954 where they had since resided.

Survivors include the widower; a son, Frank, of Sierra Madre, Calif.; four daughters, Matilda of Sioux City, Mrs. L. V. Grooters of Boyden, Mrs. John Kosters of Sioux Center, Mrs. Richard Vande Hoef of Harris; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Her husband's obituary (Sioux Center News, Sept. 18, 1974) gives her name as Lucy Dykstra and their marriage date as May 7, 1914. It, and the Sioux County Cemetery Index, confirm their surname as Vander Maten.
