Mrs. Gertrude Van De Hoef
Mrs. Gertrude Van De Hoef, age 90, of Newkirk, died Thursday, Aug. 9 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Hartley.

Gertrude, who was known as "Gertie," was born April 23, 1900 in Sioux County, the daughter of Cornelius Langstraat and Angelina Rozeboom Langstraat. She was raised in the Newkirk area. On Jan. 25, 1923, she married Jacob Van De Hoef at Newkirk.

They farmed in the Newkirk area. .Mr. Van De Hoef died Feb. 17,1971 at Newkirk. In 1976 Mrs. Van De Hoef became a resident of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, and in September of 1984 she transferred to the Mann Memorial Wing of the hospital in Hartley. She was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where she participated in the activities of the Ladies Aide Society and the Sunday School.

Survivors include her two sons, William and his wife Carol of Sheldon, and the Rev. Cornelius and his wife Arlene of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jean of Baltimore, Md., Judi Bloor of Bellflower, Calif., and Jacob of Columbus, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren,
Christopher and Megan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson; Arlan, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 13 at the Newkirk Reformed Church. Revs. Kevin Ver Hoeven and Cornelius Van De Hoef officiated. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
