Third Party In Two-Car Accident Dies Sunday

Funeral services were held at the Newkirk Reformed church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for Arlan Jay Van De Hoef, 16, son Mr. and Mrs. William Van De Hoef of rural Sheldon, who died at a Sioux City hospital Sunday of injuries sustained in a two-car collision one mile north and 3 miles east of Orange City April 17. Two other men, drivers of the two cars involved, were killed instantly in the mishap—Robert Lee Langstraat, 17, of Newkirk, and Bert Menning, 61, of Orange City.

Van De Hoef was a passenger in the car driven by Langstraat. He was a sophomore at Floyd Valley high school and the youths were enroute to school when the mishap occurred. Van De Hoef never regained consciousness. He suffered from internal bleeding. He was originally admitted to the Orange City hospital and was transferred to Sioux City Saturday.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Smith and burial was made in the Newkirk cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral home of Orange City.
Arlan was born March 5, 1947.
