Mr. John J. Dykstra Passed away very suddenly at his home at the age of 78 years

The community was saddened, late last Friday afternoon , when word was passed from one to another that Mr. John J. Dykstra had died very suddenly at his home here in Hull.

Mr. Dykstra and daughter Helen had just returned from a business trip to Sheldon and had gone down into the basement where Mr. Dykstra slumped to the floor dead. He had been a sufferer with diabetes and dropsy for a number of years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home and from the First Reformed church with Rev. Wm. C. De Jong in charge. Interment was in Hope cemetery . Pall bearers were neighbors of the deceased. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Kraai and Van Etten morticians. All the children of the deceased were at home to pay their last respects to their father.

Obituary.
John J. Dykstra was born in the Netherlands on December 9, 1869 and came to this country at the age of two with is parents who settled in the Middleburg vicinity.

In 1895 he was untied in marriage to Anne Niewenhof. After making their home in Middleburg for a few years they moved to Perkins, and after a number of years at the latter place the family moved to Hull in 1910 where Mr. Dykstra continued in the General Merchandise business.

To this union nine children were born, all of who survive. The are Sue (Mrs. W. T. Van Wyk) of Mission Texas; Kathryn (Mrs. Will Vande Garde) of Sibley; Jerrie of Sheldon; Helen at home; Winifred (Mrs. Dick De Jongh) of Hull; Gertrude (Mrs. Ralph Van Peursem) of Rochester NY; Caroline (Mrs. Ed De Jong) of Donna Texas; Laurence of Rochester NY; and Angelina (Mrs. Forrest Morrice) of Mankato MN. Alson surviving are 15 granchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Three brothers Joh of Middleburg; Charlie of DesMoines and Hessel of Sheldon; two sisters, Mrs. B. B. Vander Zwaag (Anne) of Middleburg and Mrs. P. Odens (Kate) of Springfield, Soulh Dakota.

Mr. Dykstra was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away 10 years and 6 days before his death: one grandchild, Joan Joy Van Peursem; his parents; and one sister, Mrs. John Kraai (Winnie).

Mr. Dykstra passed away Friday. February 2_, 1948, . having attained the age. of 78 years, 2 months and 17 days.

During his, lifetime. Mr. Dykstra was the owner of general merchandise stores at Perkins and Hull and
retired from his chosen profession in 1937. -His son-in-law Mr. W. T. Van Wyk, and his son .Jerrie were associated with him in business at separate times before his retirement Mr. Dykstra was a faithful and loving father and will be greatly missed by the sorrowing children, to whom the sincere sympathy of a host of friends, is extended.
