Alton Democrat of August 6, 1904

Many of the residents of Hull and the country northeast of there will be sorry to hear of the death of Miss Anna Steffin (Steffen) a bright intelligent young lady who was born and resided for twenty three years of life on the farm her father owned there.

Her mother has been in poor health for years and Anna was the housekeeper and helper of all in the family aa she was the only sister in a family of boys. Something over two years ago Mr. Steffin sold his farm and moved with his family to Oklohoma and there she became acquainted with a young minister of the M. E. church and the liking soon ripened into devoted love on both sides but the parents did not wish to spare their daughter from their home and a time of severe trial came to the young couple. The young man being anxious to take unto his own care the faithful girl who had spent so many of her best years in care and attention for others and now looked forward to the joy and blessedness of being a true helpmate to her husband but the father would not hear to the entreaties of the young man or the tears of his daughter and they were seperated without hope that in the future the parents might relent and grief so wore Miss Steffen's health that she fell into a state of melancholy and had to be taken to an asylum where death came to her as a glad release about two weeks ago.
