Hawarden Independent, March 25, 1999

Tracy Vander Schaaf, 80, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, March 16, at Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility.

Services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Vander Schaaf was born November 17, 1918, in Hawarden, the daughter of Tiete & Jennie (Slickers) Van Bruggen. She married John S. Vander Schaaf, April 30, 1936. The couple farmed near Lebanon until 1960, when they moved to Sioux Center.

She was a former member of Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon and a current member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed quilting, singing and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Donald & Delma of Sioux Center; a daughter and her husband, Lois & Leon Wichers of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Ted & Gerry Van Bruggen of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Albert and Ann Van Bruggen of Hawarden; and two sisters, Dean Reinking of Chino, California, and Alice and her husband Cliff Reinking of Ireton.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Arie in infancy, Wilson, Arie & Henry Van Bruggen; and three sisters, Cora Peuse, Alice as a child and Josephine Vander Griend.

Memorials may be directed to Sioux Center community Hospital and Health Center for Alzheimer's Resources.
