Funeral services were held Saturday, December 10, for Mr. Jake Vander Schaaf, 76, of LeMars at 2:00 p.m., in Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home here with Rev. A. Kinrade officiating. Burial was held in Sioux Center Community cemetery.

Mr. Vander Schaaf passed away at the LeMars Sacred Heart hospital, Thursday noon. He had reached the age of 76 years, 10 months and 17 days.

Mr. Vander Schaaf was born January 21, 1884, in Sioux Center and was united in marriage to Kate Dykstra on April 1, 1909, at Sioux Center. On November 26, 1937, she preceded him in death. Survivors include the following children: Jessie (Mrs. Lane Willemstein) of Doon; Anna (Mrs. Gerrit Gerritsen) of Rock Valley; John J. of Westfield; Anthony J. of Reseda, Calif.; Gertrude (Mrs. Clifford Wassenaar) of LeMars, and Urban C. Vander Schaaf of Freemont, Neb. Two sons died in infancy.

One brother, Ring of Sioux Center survives and three brothers and two sisters preceded him: Ike, Rev. John, Ed, Mary (Mrs. A. Kosters) and Bertha (Mrs. William Hoeder). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Vander Schaaf farmed near Sioux Center until 1935 and then moved to LeMars where he lived until the time of his death.
