Sioux Center News, July 23, 1953

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church at Orange City on Friday, July 3, for Ed Van Der Schaaf life-long resident of Sioux County who died at the Orange City hospital June 30.

Dr. Henry Colenbrander and Rev. L. Nattress conducted the last rites, and interment was made at the Sioux Center cemetery. Pall bearers were Robert J. Van Der Schaaf, Benjamin Batavia, Jr., John R. Van Der Schaaf, Henry A. Kosters, John A. Kosters and Henry Rikkers.

Edward Van Der Schaaf was born in Sioux County, December 9, 1885, the son of John & Antonia Van Der Schaaf. His boyhood and young manhood were spent on his parents farm near Sioux Center.

On March 1, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Rikkers, to which union there were born four daughters and two sons. Mr. Van Der Schaaf's entire life was spent in farm operation near Sioux Center and Orange City.

At the time of his death, June 30, 1953, at the age of 67 years, seven months, he was a long time member in good standing at the First Reformed Church of Orange City.

Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother, Edward Van Der Schaaf is survived by his wife; his four daughters, Antonia (Mrs. Richard ) Burggraaf, Boyden; Gertrude (Mrs. Robert E. ) Remmerde, Rock Valley; Edna (Mrs. Herman) Boersma, Sheldon; Nelvina (Mrs. Gerrit W. G. )Holstein and two sons, Rev. Henry Van Der Schaaf of Prairie View, Kans, and John of Orange City.

Twelve grandchildren and three brothers, Ring of Sioux Center, Jake of LeMars, and Rev. John J. of Orange City, all survive.
