Simon W. Bakker, 70, died Tuesday, Aug. 2,2005 at Hillcrest Care Center, Hawarden. Funeral service was Aug. 6 at Congregational United Church of Christ, Hudson. The Rev. Nancy Jacobson will officiate. Burial was at Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Porter Funeral Home, Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Simon was born March 11, 1934 to Tunis and Aldena (Beers) Bakker in Inwood. He was united in marriage to Marlys Hoover on Nov. 13, 1954 in Hudson. Together they lived near Rock Rapids, before moving to farm near Hudson.

Simon recently worked at Alkota in Alcester from the mid 80's thru 2001. Marlys died Sept. 13, 2001. He is survived by three daughters: Karma Bakker of Alcester, SD, Elizabeth Hamilton of Hawardeii, and Diane Frieberg of Yankton and daughter-in-law, Cindy Bakker of Sioux Falls; two sons, Tim Bakker of Hudson and Brian Bakker of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Guy Bakker and sister, Gertrude Havelaar, both of Canton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys; daughter, Julie Bakker; sisters: Teresa Bakker and Grace Beadle.
