Greta Foreman, age 86, of Davenport died on Tuesday, March 19, 2012 Celebration of life
services were held on Saturday morning, March 23, 2012 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport. Greta Genevieve Foreman was born on September 27, 1926, in Sioux County to Andrew and Gertrude Vander Maten. She married Donald G. Foreman on June 17, 1947, in Middleburg, and they celebrated 65 years this past summer. She devoted her career to
education, retiring in 1989 after 34 years. Her first 12 years were served in west and northwest Iowa. She and her husband moved to Davenport in 1956 where their three children Karla, Brad and Pam were born. In the meantime she earned her B.A. from Augustana and her M.A. from University of Iowa. In the 1970s she resumed teaching as a resource teacher at Jefferson Elementary until retirement. She served on a pilot program for the state of Iowa for special education, "SPURT" (Special Program Utilizing Resource Teachers), from 1973 to 1975. She was a former member of PEO, ISEA, NEA and Davenport Area Retired Teachers Association.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she was earlier a choir member, Sunday school teacher, counselor and was a current member of the church's 49ers Sunday school class. She also enjoyed travel, music, antiques, her grandchildren and collectibles.
Those who cherish her memory include her husband Donald; daughters Karla (Bill) Sandry of Bettendorfand Pam (John) Simonovich of Bloomington, 111.; son Brad Foreman of Davenport; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters Alice Van Dyke of Orange City, JoAnn Schouten of Sioux Center, Edna Kiel of Fullerton, Calif., and Adeline (Audley) Dolphin
of Hospers; and brother Willis Vander Maten of Grand Island, Fla.
