Funeral services for John Van Surksum , 81, were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home with the Rev. W,C. Umain of the Netherlands Reformed Church officiating . Interment was in Valley View Cemetery. Mrs. Van Surksum died at the Rock Rapids hospital last Thursday where he had been analyzed for five month.

Mr. Van Surksum was born in the Netherland December 11, 1886 and came to America at the age of 28 Years. He married Gertrude Rempt in 1923. He had retired from farming in Rock Valley area and moved to Doon.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude; Two daughters and five sons, Bernard,of Jenison Mich., Richard of Rock Valley; William and John Jr., of Doon, Gerad of Sioux Falls; MrsPeter (Grace) Van Veldhuizen of Canton; Mrs. Cornelius (Johanna)Teunissen and Byron of Center, Mich; 31 grandchildren. One sister Mrs. (Charlotte) Peter Schuih of Amsterdam, Netherlands
