William Wangen, 81, of Long Beach, Calif., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at his residence. He was a former Ireton resident. Funeral services were Aug. 16, at Hope Chapel, Forest Lawn Mortuary, Cypress, Calif., with the Rev. Peter G. St. Don officiating. Military service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Cypress.

William (Bill) Wangen was born in Nevis, Minn., the son of Peter & Rachel Wangen, on Sept. 8, 1920. He moved to Sioux City as a young boy attending grade school and Central High School.

He married Carol Jean Day on July 27, 1941, at the bride's home, north of Ireton. After serving with the Air Force they lived in Ireton where he ran a trucking business and gas station. They moved to California in 1952 where he worked as a long haul trucker and in construction.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Long Beach; two daughters, Shelly Minser of Palmdale, Calif., and Natalie Ortiz of Yorba Linda, Calif; two granddaughters, and a step-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordan and Jimmy and two sisters, Ella and Florence.
