Sioux Center News, November 23, 1988

Egbert Bonestroo, 65, of Hull, died Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital after an illness of 6 months. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 21, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. William Renkema officiating. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery in Hull with military rites by the American Legion. Arrangements were with the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home of Hull.

Egbert was born Jan. 30, 1921, at Hull, the son of Egbert Bonestroo and Wilhelmina Korthals Bonestroo. He was raised at Perkins, and served in the United States Army during World War II. He then returned to Hull where he was a mechanic at D & S Chevrolet for 23 years. He later owned and operated a Standard Service Station, and most recently was employed by Associated Milk Producers, Inc. of Sioux Center. In 1983 he semi-retired.

On Aug. 7, 1942, he married Nellie Van Engen at Doon. She died Jan. 20, 1972. In Nov. 19, 1973 he married Ellen Cuperus at Hull.

Egbert was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull, where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of Wegman-Koele Post 390 of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; 5 children: Elaine De Leeuw of Sioux Center; Howard of Doon; Arlan and David, both of Hull; and Mrs. Charles (Marcene) Wallinga, of Kuna, Idaho; four step-children: Mrs. Ed (Noella) Haverman of Hull; Peter Van Hofwegen, of Colton, SD; Mrs. Philip (Bonnie) De Stigter of Sioux Center; and LuAnn Van Hofwegen of Hull; 21 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren; mother, Minnie Bonestroo, of Hull; 5 brothers, Fred of Sheldon; Gerald and Alvin both of Hull; Leonard of Boyden; and Thomas of Hull; and sister, Mrs. Herman (Albertha) Rozenboom, of Sioux Falls, SD.

In addition to his first wife and father, he was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter; and three brothers, Henry and Benjamin and Edward, in infancy.
