Orange City, Iowa - Ethel F. Bogaard, 84, of Orange City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth & Harlan Van Oort Officiating. Burial will be, prior to the service Saturday in, West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10 a.m., Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m, today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Ethel Florence was born May 7, 1919, in rural Alton, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew & Flora (Sipma) De Graaf. She was raised in the Newkirk, Iowa area, where she graduated from Newkirk High School. After graduating from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, she was a teacher in the Floyd Rural Independent School System.

On May 23, 1941, she married Clifford D. Bogaard in Newkirk. They made their home on a farm just east of Orange City. For 25 years, she worked beside her husband at the Tri-State Livestock Auction Company in Sioux Center, Iowa. She continued to work there part-time after Cliff's death on Nov. 27, 1975, in Orange City.

Music was an important part of her life. She was the organist for five years at Newkirk Reformed Church and for 48 years at Trinity Reformed Church. She also accompanied the Sioux County Farm Bureau Chorus and many Tulip Festival night shows.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where she belonged to Reformed Church Women and taught Sunday School classes. Other activities included the Sioux County Concert Series board, the Northwestern College Auxiliary and the Tulip Festival Queen's committee.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children and their spouses: Karen & Gerald Keithley of Humboldt, Iowa; Nolan & Mary Lynn Bogaard of Coralville, Iowa, and Mary & Alan Hofland of Battle Creek, Mich; six grandchildren: Kyle Keithley, Matt Keithley and his wife, Shauna; Melissa Bogaard, Monica and her husband Matt Ruess; Chris Hofland and his wife, Susan, and Cynthia and her husband, Kolin Redman; eight great grandchildren; a brother-in-law and his wife, Milton & Alma Bogaard; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Kathy & George Frerichs and Dr. Lee & Ruth Van Voorhis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 34 years, she was also preceded in death by three brothers and their wives, Frank & Artie (Hofmeyer) De Graaf; Marion & Sophia De Graaf, and Arthur & Bessie De Graaf; and a sister and her husband, Jeanette & William Van Rooyen.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Reformed Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
