Henry E. Bonestroo, 96, of Hull died Wednesday, October 4, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.
Services were at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.
Bonestroo was born March 29, 1904, in Alton, the son of Eibert & Eibertje (Juffer) Bonestroo. He was raised in the rural Hull area. He married Gertrude Burgers on October 23, 1924, in Alton. The couple first lived in Perkins and later moved to Hull. He was employed with Great Northern & Milwaukee Railroad from 1920 to 1949. He then operated a dray line in Hull and also served as caretaker of Hope Cemetery for many years. His wife died June 17, 1982, in Hull. He entered Valley manor in December 1998.
He was a member of First Reformed Church and was a volunteer fireman. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and sports.
Survivors include two daughters, Henrietta Van Roekel of Rock Valley and Viola and her husband, Loren Dengler of Rock Rapids; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Henrietta; a son-in-law, Art Van Roekel, a grandson; four brothers, Tin, Andre, Bert and Ben Bonestroo; and a sister, Mary Boeve.
Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
