Sioux County Capital, Orange City, September 1, 1994

Irene M. Bogaard, 90, Lakewood, Colo. former Sioux City resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1994 in Lakewood after a brief illness.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Alfred E. McCoy officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton under direction of the Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, Sioux City.

Irene Bogaard, the former Irene M. Hensing, was born Aug. 30, 1903, in Alton. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Alton in 1922 and Iowa State University in 1926. She married Joseph B. Bogaard, May 4, 1931 in Rock Valley. They came to Sioux City in 1935, and moved to Colorado a few years ago. Mr. Bogaard died July 29, 1991 in Denver, Colo. She operated the Irene Bogaard Beauty Shop for 16 years in Sioux City, and also taught at St. Boniface Catholic School.

While living in Sioux City, Mrs. Bogaard was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, The confraternity, Catholic Women's League and 3rd Order of St. Francis. She was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, William J. Bogaard & Claire, and Dr. Thomas P. Bogaard & Karen, all of Pasadena, Calif; two daughters, Joan M. Roepke and her husband Leo of Little Rock, Ark., and Irene "Penni" Dorwart and her husband John of Lakewood, Colo; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in her name with the Carmelite Nuns, 2901 S. Cecelia St., Sioux City, Iowa 51106
