Joseph B. Bogaard, 86, of Lakewood, Colo, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, July 29, 1991 at a Denver hospital after a brief illness.
A memorial Mass was held Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sioux City. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. William Skinner, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton.
Mr. Bogaard was born Jan. 15, 1905 in Orange City. He graduated from Orange City Public High School in 1923 and then attended the University of Iowa and Ohio State University. He married Irene M. Hensing, May 4, 1931 in Rock Valley. He had been a Sioux City resident since 1935 and had worked for Continental Baking Company for 30 years, retiring in 1969.
He had been a member of the Siouxland Senior Center and the Teamsters Union and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Lakewood, Colo.; two sons and their wives, William J. & Claire Bogaard of Pasadena, Calif., and Dr. Thomas P. & Karen Bogaard of Pasadena; two daughters and their husbands, Joan M. & Leo Roepke of Little Rock, Ark., and Irene "Penni" & John Dorwart of Lakewood; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
