Hawarden Independent, August 31, 1933

Fred Boller of Beresford, a well known early day resident of Hawarden, died suddenly from heart trouble at Rochester, Minn. at 11 o'clock Tuesday night. Accompanied by Mrs. Boller, he had gone to Rochester to go through the clinic only the day before he was stricken.

Mr. Boller was 64 years of age and was born in Winona, Minn., July 26, 1869. He came to Hawarden in 1890 and for about eleven years was engaged in the barber business in this city. He moved to Beresford in 1901 and was engaged in the barber trade there until twelve years ago when he was appointed postmaster at that place, which position he has continued to hold. He had not been in robust health for a number of years but his physical condition had not interfered with the discharge of his duties as postmaster.

Mr. Boller was united in marriage with Miss Bessie Yorker at Beresford on Feb. 11, 1897. Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Shirley Boller of Yankton, SD, and Eugene Boller of Beresford. He also leaves two brothers, Jacob and Adolph Boller of St. Paul, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Dave Gearhart of Pukwana, SD. He was a nephew of Ben Rummel of Hawarden.

Mr. Boller had many old friends in Hawarden who were deeply shocked at news of his sudden death.

The remains are being brought back to Beresford and funeral services will be held at the Congregational church there at 2:30 Friday afternoon with Rev. W. S. Harper in charge. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave with Rev. Harper, grand chaplain for South Dakota in charge.
