HENDRINE VAN GORP

August 20, 1925 - March 27, 2013

Mrs. Hendrine Van Gorp, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 30, at 2:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Hendrine was born on August 20, 1925, at Orange City, the daughter of Peter L. and Gertrude (Roghair) Wielenga. She was raised at Orange City.

On April 8, 1948, she married Lloyd Van Gorp in Orange City. For most of their married life, they farmed near Orange City, where she was a homemaker and an active farmer’s wife. In 1988, they semi-retired to an acreage north of Orange City. Lloyd passed away on January 21, 2005, in Orange City.

Mrs. Van Gorp then made her home at the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. In March of 2006, she transferred to the Heritage House.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the women’s organizations. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and listening to gospel music and hymns.

Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Carol Van Gorp, of Orange City; Arlin and Janene Van Gorp, of Sioux Center; and Raymond and Lori Van Gorp, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Kevin Van Gorp, and his wife, Heather, of Bondurant; Craig Van Gorp, and his wife, Rachel, of Orange City; Kelli, and her husband, Baron Hendricks, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Mindy, and her husband, Jason Abendroth, of Waukee; Luke Van Gorp, and his wife, Jana, of West Des Moines; Seth Van Gorp, and his wife, Amy, of Sergeant Bluff; Leah, and her husband, Michael Kragskow, of Omaha, Nebraska; Kyle Van Gorp, and his wife, Sarah, of Des Moines; and Corey Van Gorp, of Orange City, and his fiancé, Tana Te Brink, of Alton; twenty great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marion Wielenga, and two sisters, Esther, and her husband, Syne Wynia, and Geraldine De Jong, all of Orange City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Jean Van Gorp; and three brothers, Louis, Edward, and Stanley Wielenga.
