GERTRUDE M. KAMIES

January 31, 1936 - March 22, 2013

Mrs. Gertrude Kamies, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 30, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Gertrude Mae was born on January 31, 1936, in Orange City, the daughter of William and Rena (Den Hartog) Bomgaars. She was raised at Maurice, where she graduated from the public high school. She also attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City.

On June 4, 1957, she married John Ivan Kamies at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. They made their home near Maurice, in Alton for a short time, and in Orange City, where she was a homemaker and also a secretary for Pals Transfer. Later, she was employed in the tax department of the Sioux County Court House in Orange City. On May 14, 2012, she became a resident of the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

“Gert” was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she worked in the library. She also volunteered for Bethany Christian Services of Northwest Iowa and Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.

Besides volunteering, she enjoyed fixing puzzles, traveling, and wintering in Texas.

Survivors include her husband of more than 55 years; a daughter and her husband, Lisa and John Lambert, of Orange City; a granddaughter and her husband, Tiffany and Kent Smith, of New Mexico; a great-granddaughter, Lily; a sister and her husband, Adrianna and Gerard Mulder, of Sheldon; and two brothers, Bill Bomgaars, and his wife, Mary, of Le Mars; and Howard Bomgaars, of Maurice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Geraldine Thelma Bomgaars.
