Berend, who was known as "Ben", was the son of John and Emma (Lutjens) Tiedeman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. On March 10,1937, he married Josephine Martha Kaster at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. They farmed at Hull. Mrs. Tiedeman passed away August 2,1989, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

In 1995, Mr. Tiedeman became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. He had lived on the same farm for 58 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he had served as president of the congregation. He was also active in the community, where he had served on the boards of directors of the Hull Cooperatives and Farmers Mutual Insurance. He attended Senior Citizens activities and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and traveling.

Survivors include his two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Carol Tiedeman of Hull; and Harlan and Dorothy Tiedeman of Beresford, South Dakota; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Dale Shumaker of Canistota, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Hubert Tiedeman of Sheldon; and three sisters, Dorothy McCormack and Lorietta Thompson, both of Rock Rapids; and Bertha Anderson of Rock Valley.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Tiedeman, and an infant; and two brothers, Walter and Ferdinand Tiedeman.

After the committal service at the cemetery, relatives and friends are invited to join the family in the church fellowship hall for lunch and fellowship.
