Wien J. van Oort
Wien J. van Oort Sr. Friday May 8, 1931, toward noon became ill and needed Mrs. van Oort’s help to get him to a chair. One week later on Friday, May 15, 1931, Mr. van Oort passed away at the age of 73, 9 months and 18 days

He was born July 27, 1857 in Ede, Gelderland. On March 8, 1872, he arrived in Sioux County. He married Miss Jennie Lagendyk on July 16, 1872 in Orange City, who is now left with 10 of the 12 children that were born to them.

Katie, (Mrs. Ben H. van der Zwaag); Alton; Paul W. van Oort, Sioux City; Albert van Oort, Orange City; Cyrene van Oort, Strasburg, N. Dak; Artie (Mrs. Frank Bruyn) Edgerton, MN; Dena (Mrs. Thos. Geselschap), Orange City; Jennie (Mrs Frank van der Stoep), Orange City; John W. van Oort, Orange City. Paul is the only one that didn’t marry. The couple lived around Middleburg for sometime, when in 1917 they moved with their unmarried children into town to seek employment there.

Mr. van Oort did have a problem with his severe deafness, but in spite of that , he did have a great many friends. Survivors include his wife, and children and married children, and two brothers , John van Oort, Sheldon, and Cornelius van Oort, Hotchkiss, Colo.
The funeral was held Tuesday, 1:30 from the funeral home and 2;00 pm from the Ger Church of which he was a member.

Among those attending the funeral were John van Oort, and K. Lagendyk from Sheldon and old neighbors around Middleburg, along with many friends.
