Joan La Vonne Bultje, 91, Mitchell, S.D., died Tuesday, June 5, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Bultje was born November 4, 1920, at Hull to Gerrit and Sadie (Scholten) Kempers. She grew up at Sioux Center, where she attended country school. She worked doing housekeeping and was employed at restaurants for many years. On April 27, 1951, she married John Bultje at First Reformed Church at Sioux Center. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Mitchell and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her son, Evan Bultje, Watertown; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Esther Kempers, Sioux Center, Rosemary Taylor, Ames, Henrietta Bultje, Mitchell, and Margaret Bultje, Armour, S.D. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; three brothers: John, Orville and Gary; seven brothers-in-law, Henry, Fred, Albert, Cornie, Arie, Harold and Elmer; and five sisters-in-law, Johanna, Effie, Fannie, Lola and Gertrude.
