Jennie Vande Stowe, 98, of Hawarden died Thursday, April 19, 1990, in a hospital in Vermillion, SD. Services were Saturday in United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Paul Hansen and the Rev. Ron Nusswarren officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Vande Stowe, the former Jennie Van Noort, was born Jan. 27, 1892, in the Netherlands. She came to the United States in 1895 with her parents and to Sioux County near Carmel. She graduated from Hull High School and taught in various rural schools in Sioux County for many years.

She married Jacob Vande Stowe Jan. 20, 1915, at Hull. The couple moved to Rock Valley in 1922. He died Dec. 26, 1925. She moved to Hawarden in 1946. She had been a resident of Morningside Manor at Alcester, SD, the last three years. - Mrs. Vande Stowe was a member of United Methodist Church of Hawarden, Order of Eastern Star and MIC Club.

Survivors include a son, Jack of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. B. N. (Betty) Brown of Hawarden; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Vande Stowe of Golden, CO; six grandchildren, B. N. "Bud" Brown Jr., Becky Treiber, Bruce Vande Stowe, Karen Lichtenstein, Paula Vande Stowe and Diann Mackey; and eight greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Milton; a daughter-in-law, Glory Vander Stowe; a brother, Martin Van Noort and three sisters, Alta, Elizabeth and Emma.
