Sioux Center News of August 6, 1942

Dick Vander Weerd, 17 Called by Death
Dick Vander Weerd, 17 years old died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Weerd, last Friday. He had been an invalid since his birth at Orange City. Dick would have been 18 on Sept 28, 1942.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 o’clock at the home and 1:30 at the Frist hr. Ref. Church on Tuesday with the Rev. Armoy’s officiating. Interment was at the Sioux Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gideon Vogel. James Tamminga, Chester De Sigter, Tom Visser, Johnny Van Oosbree and Gerrit Calkhoven.

Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Weerd, and older brother, Everette in Boston, two younger brothers, Lawrence and Marion at home and grandfather , D. Winkle.

Those from out of town who came to the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Dick "Winkle of' Sherman. S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Winkle of Sioux City, Mrs. Richard Zimmerman, .and son Dennis, Mrs. Jerry Brandts and two children, Dixie and Jerry of Orange City, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Van Dyk of Hynes, Calif, and Rich Van Dyk of Artesia Calif.
