VANDERVEEN, MEENDERING

William Vander Veen was born of Mr. and Mrs. Arend Vander Veen Jan. 21, 1890 in Oldebroek, Netherlands. In 1911 he came with his parents to this country and they made their home in Michigan. They moved to Sioux county in 1915.

March 9, 1922 he married Helen Meendering at Boyden where they began farming in this community. There were no children born to this union.

Later they lived near Springfield, S. Dak. just previous to coming to Boyden in 1942, they lived near Doon. Mr. Vander Veen passed away at his home at Boyden, Iowa at the age of 57 years, 1 month, and 11 days. He had been in poor health several years.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Boyden Saturday afternoon with Rev. H. Colenbrander of Orange City officiating. A male quartette composed of Gerrit Schneider, Herman Vander Maten. Henry Van Houte, and Bert Janssen sang "We Are Going Down the Valley" with Mrs. Pete Moret accompanying them at the piano. Pallbearers were William Humme, Nick J. Kooiker. Ben Peters, Henry Reuvers. Gerrit Alons, and Peter J. Westra. interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery.

Surviving are his widow, four brothers and two sisters: Walter Van Der Veen, Hudsonville, Mich., Mary (Mrs. Henry Driesenga), Hudsonville, Mich., Effie (Mrs. John R. Citter). Boyden, Iowa, Ben Vander Veen. Doon, Iowa, Arthur Van Der Veen, Sioux Falls. S. Dak,, Martin Van Der Veen, Glennwood. Minn. His father died Marcli 12. 1930, and his mother died Oct. 31, 1943.
